What should
I get my Boyfriend for Christmas?
When
choosing a gift it helps to know a little about the recipient. This is good
news for you! Depending where you are in your relationship, you have a wealth
of knowledge to draw upon. So all that remains is asking the right questions!
Use your best judgment to answer these questions about him and you’ll soon have
a mile-long list of gift ideas that target him personally!
Him, you, merry, smile.
What
kind of boyfriend do you have? Using your best judgment, would you consider him
an extrovert or an introvert? Is he an outdoor person or an indoor person? Does
he like sports or video games? What’s his favorite music? Think about hobbies,
his work, and things he already owns. Make a list of everything you know about
him.
You
This
where we make sure whatever we get, we can live with it! Next to your list of
what you know about him make a list of how you feel about each thing. I use a
“live with it”, “deal breaker”, or “neutral” type of notation but do it your
way.
O.K.
now for the fun part! Using your feelings about it, list all the things on your
list you can ‘live with’ and order them from what you think would be the most
fun to share to least fun to share.
What
you’ve done now is identify what you two have in common. From here it should be
easy to choose something you will both enjoy! Try using the top 5-10
items.
Count your
money, count his money, chose your price.
What
you get him will, of course, depend on how much you can spend. But you need to
consider how much he can spend too. After all you wouldn’t want to embarrass
him by giving something way out of his price range (he’ll want to answer in
kind).
Count your
money
When
shopping for the holidays it’s crucial to have and stick to a budget. If you
don’t already have one, go to any online free budgeting help site and get one
now. After you decide what you’re going
to spend on your boyfriend, you can choose from your top items list. This should
help narrow it down.
Count his money
This
doesn’t mean get a full financial report, simply think about where you go and
what you do together. Consider what you think is the average amount he spends
on you. Then use your best guess to decide how much you feel he could reasonably spend on you for a Christmas
present. Use this to further narrow your list.
Choose your price
Now you have a price range for his gift. One that
won’t break your bank, yet make it easy for him to respond the way you want. Easy
right? From here it’s just a matter of choosing things within the price range!
Shop
As much
as you may love shopping, doing it during the holiday season can be brutal! I
suggest checking online before you go out there. Then you’ll know what you’re
looking for and where (you’ll probably even know the cost). With a little luck
you can find something online and get it sent to you (demand free shipping)! If
you do venture forth into the masses, use your smart phone, if you have one, to
compare prices. And have a couple of alternate choices.
Review
I
really hope this has been helpful. Just remember this:
1. Him, you, merry, smile.
2. Count
your money, count his money, chose your price.
3. Shop!
